The Centre is simultaneously mounting an exhibition of these artworks at the Global Village Expo at the Durban Exhibition Centre, where the city of Durban is hosting the 21st International Aids Conference (Aids 2016) at the ICC until July 22 . Shelley Seid spoke to Yanni Vosloo, merchandise director at Mr Price Home and Chair of the African Art Centre, about one works titled: Let’s Fly.

WHAT IS IT?

A joyful piece by Sibusiso Duma, full of movement and excitement, a highly collectable artist living in Ntuzuma; his work is available in major private and public collections. He paints in acrylic with fine pointillism technique on a bright background. The work features figurative silhouettes interacting with one another.

WHY LOOK AT IT?

I love the sense of movement in this piece. The three figures lead you through an abstract landscape of swirling dots, reminiscent of kids playing in the summer rain.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

HIV/Aids is not the end. It could be a wake-up call or, for some, a call to make a lifestyle change and, more than ever, to celebrate life.
